 “Hens on Holidays”, that’s what we call our chicken coop these days having converted one old caravan into a mobile chicken tractor. We completed the first one a few months ago and the chickens have loved it (as has the paddock!), so thanks to our current Helpx’s (Basile, Sophie & Adele) we started another caravan reno today [...] Wow, what a weekend! We headed down to Sydney to give the organic markets a try and ended up having a fantastic weekend catching up with lots of past farmstay guests…who would have thought you could fit 12 kids behind the counter of our little stall!?! Who would have thought the blokes would be willing to [...] What an amazing couple of weeks we’ve enjoyed. We’ve handspun more honey, hosted another beekeeping course, collected and filtered our beeswax in the solar cooker and blended our raw honey and beeswax into a natural range of non-toxic lip balms…and then we sold them at farmers’ markets to a great response as people enjoyed the natural flavour and texture [...] What do you do when the grass is growing like crazy and you’re lawnmower breaks down? It’s called “Goat Picnic Day”… those special days in the year the goats don’t hang out in the animal paddocks, but actually get to roam the house and farmstay area nibbling everything in sight. It’s so fun to see them [...] Araucana (or as some people spell it: arakana and arrowcana) chickens are a South American breed who lay beautifully-coloured green or blue eggs. At our nsw farmstay we pop in a breakfast hamper with free range eggs and are often asked by the guests if it’s safe to eat the green ones. It sure is. They taste no different [...] |
